Teach Astronomy,๐ Astrophysics, Inductive Reasoning, & Classic Greek Mythology While Contemplating the Universe
There is a reason the ancients were obsessed with the sky!
Thousands of years ago, people all over the Earth marveled at the stars, planets, galaxies. They built temples, earth works, and entire cities aligned to the solar equinox. Why? Because their sky looked like THIS๐
Thatโs a REAL picture of the milky way galaxy traversing the sky.
Itโs easy to forget the sky in our modern world. The brightest object in our lives isnโt the nuclear fusion reaction of our Sun but the bright screen you are staring at now. The best show on Earth isnโt the Milky Way traversing the sky but the latest series on Netflix.
But the ancients, they had the skyโฆ. they had the universeโฆ and maybe we should too.
Studies show that star-gazing reduces anxiety and depression. Looking at the vastness of space, contemplating the infiniteness of the world somehow makes our problems seem small. It puts things in perspective.
One of the most memorable nights of my life was an accident. We were in a cabin in Northern Arizona on a farm for a vacation. The fire alarm woke us at 1AM. I got my girls and we all ran out of the house. Everything was fine and it was just a poor battery but while we were out there, we looked up. Iโve NEVER seen the sky like that. It was ineffably beautiful! Iโll never forget it, and Iโve been chasing it ever since.
So this week, letโs look to the ancients and star-gaze. But letโs do more than just that, letโs read the ancientโs stories.
Letโs find wisdom in the stars.
